Hundreds of WordPerfect for Windows tips on the
main Tips page and related pages.
(An alphabetical list of related tips pages - those that deserve
more than a paragraph or two - can be browsed here.)
- The tips on this site are for a wide
range of people, from beginners to advanced users. However, many of the methods are for intermediate
and advanced users. You can simply skip over the advanced ones
until you are more comfortable with the program.
- If you are new to WordPerfect (and even if you are not) you should consider obtaining
a good book on the basic features of the program, such as the
books listed below. Such books usually pay
for themselves many times over by decreasing frustration and
increasing productivity. Once you learn the basics, advanced
information on this site will be more useful to you. (Also see
Help below.)
- You will quickly notice that some tips
pages here are loaded -- even "crammed" -- with information. This is because this site, unlike a blog or other
interactive site, attempts to act as a reference source
of both troubleshooting tips and practical useage tips. It gathers
together information from various sources over many years (and
many versions of WordPerfect), and since no one can know if even
a tiny snippet of information might hold the answer to your question
or problem, the author diligently added the information as it
became available. Therefore, it is recommended that you scan
a topic first to get a general overview, then read the topic
from beginning to end. You never know what else you might
learn that will save you time and frustration in the long run.
And, as Roy "lemoto" Lewis [Corel C_Tech] recently
remarked: "An explanation in words makes any activity
seem more complex than it is in practice. To test this, write
out instructions for boiling a kettle or putting a letter into
an envelope. Or ride a bicycle."

Recent additions to
the Library
(All items are free. This is a donation supported website.)
Clipper (v1.15) A
macro that lets you select material in the current document (or
any open WordPerfect document) and automatically clip (copy or
move) it to a separate temporary document. Clipped material is
appended to the temporary document. A dialog remains on screen
until dismissed to allow multiple clips. Updated 09/20/11
to work with highlighted text and with additional clip separators.
DocStamp (v1.03) Quickly
"toggles" a user-specified document stamp ON and OFF,
such as "Draft" or "Copy". The stamp (text
with an optional date) is inside a rotated box inside
a watermark and is visible outside page margins at the side of
the page, parallel to the edge. Easily customizable. Updated
08/27/11.
BackgroundFill (v1.0) Creates a "background page fill" with your
choice of color, outside the page margins, on the current
page or from the current page forward, according to the specifications
of the user. The spacing to the page edges for each border can
be set independently, and changes in WordPerfect's page margins
will not affect the border. [See next item below for a similar
macro.] Uploaded 08/01/11.
LineBorders (v1.02) Creates a line border (single, double, dashed, thick,
etc.) outside the page margins or at any other specified
location, around the perimeter of the current page (or from the
current page forward), according to the specifications of the
user. The spacing to the page edges for each border can be set
independently, and changes in WordPerfect's page margins will
not affect the border. Updated 08/01/11.
LablCopy (v2.13) A
macro that quickly fills up Avery® sheets (and even regular
paper) with duplicate copies of the same item -- great for return
address labels, business cards, numbered log sheets, etc. Just
create a single "master" copy and play the macro. Updated
06/02/11 to detect any changes in label's line spacing.
[See also BATES to add fixed-width
numbers to labels or cards.]
SaveCopy (v1.05) This
macro saves your currently opened file and simultaneously makes
an archive copy of it on another drive, using a user-specified
folder on that drive to store the copy. Updated 03/06/11.
EdgeText (v1.03) A
macro that can place a line of text, the date, and/or the filename
at one of eight places around the edges of the page, outside
the page margins, on all pages or just specific pages. Easily
customizable. [Revised with additional options.] Updated 12/24/10.
Convert Case (v1.0) A macro that converts the word under (or to the left
of) the cursor, or the word(s) that you have selected, into upper
case, initial capitals, lower case (except the beginning of sentences),
or lower case for all letters. (The latter choice is not a built-in
feature in WordPerfect.) The pop up menu also requires fewer
keystrokes or mouse clicks than using the WordPerfect menus.
Uploaded 07/12/10.
Splitter (v1.0) A
macro to split the current document into several new,
sequentially numbered documents on disk. Uploaded 05/28/10.
[See also Clipper.]
CustomEnv (v1.01) Custom
Envelope Launcher is macro designed to copy an inside address
(i.e., the recipient's mailing address) from the current document
and paste it on a customized envelope set up for this purpose,
and allow immediate printing or appending to the letter. The
envelope can have a custom return address area with different
fonts, graphics, etc., as well as any other custom designs (watermarks,
text boxes, etc.) on the rest of the envelope. Uploaded 04/08/10.

Do you have the original release of WordPerfect
11 (i.e., version 11.0.0.233 as shown in Help > About
WordPerfect)? See here
for specific issues.
Notes to Windows Vista users: WordPerfect
Office X3 with Service Pack 2 (i.e., 13.0.0.568 as shown in Help
> About WordPerfect) or later versions/builds of WordPerfect
are the only WordPerfect programs that Corel officially certifies
will work properly under Vista. Earlier, fully patched
versions/builds might work under Vista, but there is no guarantee
this will be true on your system. For information on WordPerfect's
versions and specific builds for each version (the four-part
number above), and the various Corel Service Packs available,
see here.
For some personal notes on running WordPerfect 12.0.0.602 under
Vista (which requires a small, downloadable Microsoft patch file
[WinHlp32.exe] to allow earlier Windows Help files to work under
Vista), see this
post on WordPerfect Universe. After an automatic Microsoft update
to Vista appeared to have caused a serious system crash on my
computer with Vista Ultimate installed on a separate partition
-- it would not boot into Vista and it could not be repaired
from the Vista disc -- I removed Vista after eight months of
light use. Restoring my system took almost two days. As a result,
I will not be testing any tips, methods, templates, or macros
under Vista until (and if) I get a computer with Vista pre-installed,
which will probably be well into Vista's life cycle. [UPDATE
October 2008: Now that Windows 7 is on the horizon, I will certainly
not be supporting WordPerfect macros or templates under Windows
Vista since I intend to wait for Windows 7 before buying a new
computer, completely bypassing Vista.]
