Align endnotes on the period (a/k/a/ "full stop") following the endnote number

Here are two methods that use a hard decimal tab:

Method A

The effect of using a Hard Decimal Tab to override a normal Tab was discussed by Charles Rossiter (Corel C_Tech) at WordPerfect Universe. Using this information, the expanded procedure shown below is simpler than Method B, but requires that at least one endnote exist in the document.

It was tested in WordPerfect 8 and WordPerfect 12.

•  Click inside the endnote section, on any endnote (you must be in Page view to see endnotes). In Reveal Codes, double-click the [Open Style: Endnote] code. A Styles Editor dialog appears.

•  With the insertion cursor between the [DocStyle] and [EndNote Num...] codes in the Editor's Contents window, go to the Style Editor's top menu and click on Format > Line > Other Codes... > Hard tabs: Decimal [Hd Dec Tab]. Click on Insert to place the code in the Styles Editor.

OPTIONAL:

If you want the period to be aligned on a different tab stop setting than the default 0.5", place the insertion cursor before (i.e., in front of) the [Hd Dec Tab] code, then click Format > Line > Tab Set and change the Tab position (e.g., 0.3"); click Set > Close.

(If you see [Dot Lead][Dec/Align] codes, you can delete them.)

If you want a space between the endnote number and the endnote text, place the insertion cursor after all codes and text in the Contents field and press the <Spacebar>.

•  Click OK. The endnote numbers should now be aligned on the period following each number, and be indented one tab stop.

•  OPTIONAL:  To make these changes apply to all future documents with endnotes, you can use the "Permanent Changes" procedure on the tips page, "Footnotes and Endnotes: Setting or changing margins, numbers, font sizes and other formatting in WordPerfect notes."

Method B

Here's a method using decimal tabs that was first described on a Corel Newsgroup by Roy Lewis. It has been modified slightly.

Note: This tip is NOT for WordPerfect 12. For some reason the procedure will cause WordPerfect to freeze. This has been confirmed, and will have to await a fix by Corel.

•  Click on Insert > Footnote/EndNote > Endnote > Options > Advanced > In Note. A Styles Editor window appears.

•  With the insertion cursor between the [DocStyle] and [EndNote Num...] codes in the Editor's Contents window, go to the Style Editor's top menu and click on Format > Line > Tab Set > Clear All > (Tab type:) Decimal Tab > (Tab position:) 0.5in > Set > Close.

•  While you are still in the Endnote Styles Editor (with the insertion cursor just after the newly inserted [Tab Set] code, click on Format > Line > Other Codes > (Hard Tabs:) Decimal Tab > Insert. This inserts a [Hd Dec Tab] code in the Contents window.

•  Click OK twice, then Close, to return to your document.

•  OPTIONAL:  To make these changes apply to all future documents with endnotes, you can use the "Permanent Changes" procedure on the tips page, "Footnotes and Endnotes: Setting or changing margins, numbers, font sizes and other formatting in WordPerfect notes."
